A SERIES OF DEVOTIONS BASED ON THE GOSPEL ACCORDING TO MATTHEW

JESUS REVEALS THE FATHER TO YOU

Matthew 11:27 “All things have been committed to Me by My Father. No one knows the Son except the Father, and no one knows the Father except the Son and those to whom the Son chooses to reveal Him.”

Every time you confess your faith through the Apostle’s, Nicene or Athanasian creeds, you state that you believe in the Triune God. The Triune God is three persons, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Though God is three persons He is one God.

In today’s devotional verse, Jesus says that you cannot know God, the Father, unless He reveals Him to you. You are unable to truly know God the Father through your own wisdom, intellectual abilities or through research. Jesus alone reveals Him to you in all His glory.

Jesus said, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me. If you really know Me, you will know My Father as well.” (John 14:6-7) Having heard Jesus say these words, Philipp, one of His disciples asked Jesus to show him the Father. Jesus said to Philipp: “Don’t you know Me, Philip, even after I have been among you such a long time? Anyone who has seen Me has seen the Father. How can you say, ‘Show us the Father’? Don’t you believe that I am in the Father, and that the Father is in Me? The words I say to you I do not speak on My own authority. Rather, it is the Father, living in Me, who is doing His work. Believe Me when I say that I am in the Father and the Father is in Me. . . “ (John 14:9-11)

Through your faith in Jesus you pray, “Our Father, who art in heaven. . .” It is through Jesus you receive God the Father’s forgiveness of your sins. It is through Jesus your heavenly Father has sent His love to you and does so each and every day of your life. Because Jesus and God the Father are one, you have access to God and can go to Him as a child here on earth goes to his father. Through Jesus God the Father will listen to you.

Prayer: Jesus, take my prayers to God the Father. In Your holy name. Amen.

What a friend we have in Jesus, All our sins and griefs to bear!
What a privilege to carry Ev’rything to God in prayer!
Oh, what peace we often forfeit; Oh, what needless pain we bear
All because we do not carry Ev’rything to God in prayer!

Have we trials and temptations? Is there trouble anywhere?
We should never be discouraged— Take it to the Lord in prayer.
Can we find a friend so faithful Who will all our sorrows share?
Jesus knows our ev’ry weakness— Take it to the Lord in prayer.

Are we weak and heavy laden, Cumbered with a load of care?
Precious Savior, still our refuge— Take it to the Lord in prayer.
Do thy friends despise, forsake thee? Take it to the Lord in prayer.
In His arms He’ll take and shield thee; Thou wilt find a solace there.
