A SERIES OF DEVOTIONS BASED ON PAUL’S LETTER TO THE EPHESIANS 

THERE IS ONE

Ephesians 4:4-6 “There is one body and one Spirit, just as you were called to one hope when you were called; one Lord, one faith, one baptism; one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all.”   

You live in a pluralistic world. The world says: “there are many ways to skin a cat;” “Many hands make a job easy;” “There are many paths to God.” Researchers are always looking for new answers to old questions. In today’s world new is viewed as better than the old. 

Today’s devotional verse emphasizes there is “one” instead of “many.” “There is ONE body and ONE Spirit, just as you were called to ONE hope when you were called; ONE Lord, ONE faith, ONE baptism; ONE God and Father of all . . .” Many in the world struggle with the Bible’s message that there is only ONE true God, One Savior, One path to heaven, etc.   

The ONE true God has created through His Son the ONE true Church (body.) Members of this Church possess ONE hope, the hope of God’s forgiveness of their sins and an eternal home in heaven through faith in the ONE and only Savior Jesus. You, by God’s gracious gift of faith in His son are a member of HIS ONE BODY. “Just as a body, though one, has many parts, but all its many parts form one body, so it is with Christ. For we were all baptized by one Spirit so as to form one body—whether Jews or Gentiles, slave or free—and we were all given the one Spirit to drink.” (1 Corinthians 12:12-13) 

There are many who live in this world. They believe in many gods while others believe in no God. You, by God’s grace, are blessed with the ONE true faith in the ONE true God and the One Savior who shed His blood on Calvary’s cross for your salvation. Through Him you have the sure and certain promise of eternal life in the ONE heaven where there will be no longer multiple races or ethnic groups but only ONE holy people, the children of God.   

Prayer: Keep me, O Lord, in the One true faith for Jesus’ sake. In His Holy name. Amen.
