February 5th Daily Devotion
A SERIES OF DEVOTIONS BASED ON THE GOSPEL ACCORDING TO MATTHEW
MORE ABOUT THE LAST DAY – PART 3
Matthew 24:45-47 “Who then is the faithful and wise servant, whom the master has put in charge of the servants in his household to give them their food at the proper time? It will be good for that servant whose master finds him doing so when he returns. Truly I tell you, he will put him in charge of all his possessions.”
“Who then is the faithful and wise servant,” Jesus questioned, as He concluded His teaching about the last day. How does the Bible define these two personal characteristics?
To be faithful is to be reliable, steadfast, and unwavering. God, who is faithful, when He says He will do something, He does it. When He says something will happen, it happens. When you consistently walk with God, trust in Him with all your heart, and humbly serve Him you are faithful. Overall, faithfulness in the Bible encompasses your loyalty to God, adherence to His teachings, and the reliability of His promises to you.
Solomon wrote in Proverbs 9:9-10, “Give instruction to a wise man, and he will be still wiser; teach a righteous man, and he will increase in learning. The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom, and the knowledge of the Holy One is insight.” Jesus said, “Everyone then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock.” (Matthew 7:24) Jesus says to you in regard to faithfulness, “Be faithful, even to the point of death, and I will give you life as your victor’s crown.” (Revelation 2:10) In regard to wisdom James urges you to pray for it: “If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.” (James 1:5)
Prayer: Holy Spirit, bless me that I be spiritually faithful and wise for Jesus’ sake. Amen.
Take my life and let it be
Consecrated, Lord, to Thee;
Take my moments and my days,
Let them flow in ceaseless praise.
Take my hands and let them move
At the impulse of Thy love;
Take my feet and let them be
Swift and beautiful for Thee.
Take my voice and let me sing
Always, only for my King;
Take my lips and let them be
Filled with messages from Thee.
Take my silver and my gold,
Not a mite would I withhold;
Take my intellect and use
Ev’ry pow’r as Thou shalt choose.
Take my will and make it
Thine, It shall be no longer mine;
Take my heart, it is Thine own,
It shall be Thy royal throne.
Take my love, my Lord, I poor
At Thy feet its treasure store;
Take myself, and I will be
Ever, only, all for Thee.
