April 26th | Where Jesus Goes You Go

A SERIES OF DEVOTIONS BASED ON PAUL’S LETTER TO THE EPHESIANS

WHERE JESUS GOES YOU GO

Ephesians 2:6-7 “God raised us up with Christ and seated us with Him in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus, in order that in the coming ages He might show the incomparable riches of His grace, expressed in His kindness to us in Christ Jesus”

John writes, “Dear friends, now we are children of God, and what we will be has not yet been made known. But we know that when Christ appears, we shall be like Him, for we shall see Him as He is.” (1 John 3:2) As a believer, you are at this moment a member of God’s holy kingdom. Hebrews 2:11 says, “Both the one who makes people holy (Jesus) and those who are made holy are of the same family. So Jesus is not ashamed to call them brothers and sisters.”

As a Christian, you live knowing that Jesus is your King. You have received the gift of His salvation. You are a member of His kingdom while at the same time you await the fullness of it and the completion of His work in You. Romans 8:30 says that in Christ you are glorified. Ephesians 2:6 says you are seated with Christ in heaven. This is an accomplished fact yet you have not completely realized the fullness of what this means.

You live in the now, fully a Christian, fully connected by God’s grace through faith to Jesus. All this He has earned and won for you through His perfect earthly life, gruesome suffering and death in payment for your sins, His resurrection and victory over death on Easter morning. Because of all this which Jesus has done for your salvation, you are glorified and seated with Him even now.

Thomas Winger, in his commentary on Ephesians says it this way, “Because of (your) incorporation into Christ through Baptism, where He goes, (you) go. And when He comes again in victory, His victory will be yours. . . as a baptized (Christian) you live simultaneously in the present age and the age to come. You live simultaneously in this world and in the one above.”

Prayer: Holy Spirit, keep me ever connected to Jesus live with Him in His kingdom in righteousness and purity forever. Amen.

Jesus shall reign where’er the sun Does its successive journeys run; His kingdom stretch from shore to shore Till moons shall wax and wane no more.

To Him shall endless prayer be made, And endless praises crown His head; His name like sweet perfume shall rise With ev’ry morning sacrifice.

People and realms of ev’ry tongue Dwell on His love with sweetest song; And infant voices shall proclaim Their early blessings on His name.

Blessings abound where’er He reigns; The pris’ners leap, unloose their chains,   The weary find eternal rest, And all who suffer want are blest.

Let ev’ry creature rise and bring   Honors peculiar to our King;   Angels descend with songs again, And earth repeat the loud amen.  (LSB 832)
