April 11th Daily Devotion
A SERIES OF DEVOTIONS BASED ON ACTS
THE BEST GIFT TO GIVE
Acts 3:6-7 (Read Acts 3:1-10) “Then Peter said, “Silver or gold I do not have, but what I do have I give you. In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, walk.” Taking him by the right hand, he helped him up, and instantly the man’s feet and ankles became strong.”
The friends of a beggar, graciously took him to the entrance to the temple and seated him there to beg. They and the man were resigned to the fact that they would need to do this daily so the man could obtain sufficient money upon which to live.
Along came Peter and John. They saw the man and Peter addressed him with the words of today’s devotion, “Silver or gold I do not have, but what I do have I give you.” The next sentence conveyed to the man a gift that neither gold nor silver could ever purchase. Peter said, “In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, walk.”
What is the greatest gift you can give to someone in need? You can feed a starving person food today and tomorrow they will need to be fed again. You can provide clothing to a naked person and when those clothes wear out, they will need new ones. However, when you tell them about the saving work of Jesus in their behalf you give them a gift that has the power to relieve them of their sins and to provide them with everlasting life.
What better gift can you give than the gospel which God’s power to save. (Romans 1:16) Who better to tell them about than Jesus, who is their Savior from sin and the one through whom they can overcome death itself. Jesus alone provides them with their way into heaven. There is no other way than through Him.
The beggar was healed. He went into the temple walking, jumping, and praising God. Jesus says when someone to whom you share the gospel comes to faith in Him and repents of their sins, “ . . . there is rejoicing in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner who repents.” (Luke 15:10)
Prayer: Guide me, Holy Spirit, to those who need to hear from me about Jesus and His saving work in their behalf.” In His holy name. Amen.
Praise the One who breaks the darkness
With a liberating light;
Praise the One who frees the pris’ners,
Turning blindness into sight.
Praise the One who preached the Gospel,
Healing ev’ry dread disease,
Calming storms, and feeding thousands
With the very Bread of peace.
Praise the One who blessed the children
With a strong, yet gentle, word;
Praise the One who drove out demons
With the piercing, two-edged sword.
Praise the One who brings cool water
To the desert’s burning sand;
From this Well comes living water,
Quenching thirst in ev’ry land.
Let us praise the Word Incarnate,
Christ, who suffered in our place.
Jesus died and rose victorious
That we may know God by grace.
Let us sing for joy and gladness,
Seeing what our God has done;
Let us praise the true Redeemer,
Praise the One who makes us one.
